CAD and BIM software prices for UK design offices
Autodesk and Graphisoft both sell direct in the UK at their own prices in pounds. This page shows them exactly as listed, annual and monthly, and says which include VAT. Short answer: on a 1-year term Archicad Studio costs less per seat than Revit, paid monthly the two are close, and AutoCAD LT is the cheapest way to draft in DWG.

Autodesk's UK prices include estimated VAT; Graphisoft's are plus VAT. We show both exactly as listed rather than converting one into the other. Introductory or bundle offers are left out.

Pick on the work, then the term
BIM for an architecture practice: trial both Revit and Archicad. On a 1-year term Archicad Studio is £1,913 a seat plus VAT, against £2,712 including VAT for Revit, so Archicad is more than 10% cheaper even with VAT taken out of both. Paid monthly the gap mostly closes. Archicad runs on Windows and Mac; Revit runs on Windows only.
Working with consultants: if your structural or services engineers model in Revit, staying on Revit saves converting files. Ask them what they use before you choose.
2D drafting only: AutoCAD LT, at £492 a year, covers 2D drawings in DWG. Full AutoCAD, at £1,890, adds 3D and the specialised toolsets, and includes AutoCAD for Mac.
Only some months of the year: paying monthly costs more over a year but lets you add seats for a busy patch and drop them after. Compare twelve monthly payments with the annual price before you commit.
Vectorworks: when we checked, its UK store page redirected us to its Australian store, so we couldn't confirm a UK price and haven't shown one. The Australian guide compares Vectorworks, BricsCAD and SketchUp as well.
What to check before you buy
- VAT: Autodesk's prices include its estimate of VAT, and Graphisoft's add VAT at checkout. If you're VAT registered you can usually reclaim it, so compare prices before VAT. The standard rate is 20% (GOV.UK).
- Buy from the UK store. Both vendors set prices by billing country, and Graphisoft says the final price depends on it.
- Trials first. Autodesk and Graphisoft both offer free trials. Open one of your own projects in each before you commit the practice.

How much does Revit cost in the UK?
Autodesk's UK store lists Revit at £2,712 a year for one user on a 1-year term, or £342 a month paid monthly. Autodesk says the price includes estimated VAT.
Is Archicad cheaper than Revit in the UK?
On a 1-year term, yes. Archicad Studio is £1,913 a seat plus VAT, while Revit's £2,712 includes VAT; with VAT taken out of both, Archicad Studio is still more than 10% cheaper. Paid month to month, the two are close once VAT is taken out. Archicad's Collaborate and Max tiers cost more.
Do I need full AutoCAD or is AutoCAD LT enough?
AutoCAD LT is for 2D drafting only and is £492 a year including estimated VAT. Full AutoCAD, at £1,890 a year, adds 3D, automation and the specialised toolsets. If your office only drafts and edits 2D drawings, LT is usually enough.
