CAD and BIM software prices for New Zealand design offices
Autodesk and Graphisoft both sell direct to New Zealand at their own NZD prices. This page shows those prices exactly as each vendor lists them, annual and monthly, before GST. Short answer: on a 1-year term Archicad Studio costs less per seat than Revit, month to month they cost the same, and AutoCAD LT is the cheapest way to draft in DWG.

Pick on the work, then the term
BIM for an architecture or building design office: trial both Revit and Archicad. On a 1-year term Archicad Studio is $3,800 a seat against $5,110 for Revit. Paid month to month they're the same, $645 a month. Archicad runs on Windows and Mac; Revit runs on Windows only.
Working with consultants: if your structural or services engineers model in Revit, staying on Revit saves converting files. Ask them what they use before you choose.
2D drafting only: AutoCAD LT, at $925 a year, covers 2D drawings in DWG. Full AutoCAD, at $3,560, adds 3D and the specialised toolsets, and includes AutoCAD for Mac.
Only some months of the year: paying monthly costs more over a year but lets you add seats for a busy patch and drop them after. Compare twelve monthly payments with the annual price before you commit.
Vectorworks: when we checked, its New Zealand store page redirected us to its Australian store, so we couldn't confirm an NZ price and haven't shown one. Check its site or ask a New Zealand reseller. The Australian guide compares Vectorworks, BricsCAD and SketchUp as well.
What to check before you buy
- GST is 15% on top. Every price above excludes it. A GST-registered business can usually claim it back; see Inland Revenue.
- Buy from the NZ store. Autodesk and Graphisoft set prices by billing country, and Graphisoft says the final price depends on it. Buying through another country's store can mean a different price and tax.
- Trials first. Autodesk and Graphisoft both offer free trials. Open one of your own projects in each before you commit a whole office.
General information, not tax or business advice. Prices change: always confirm on the vendor's store before you buy.
